Daily Craft - Well, sort of :)

I've been working on a pretty big project over the last couple months.  Most important thing I've ever made really.  This project isn't quite complete...almost a third finished, quite a bit to go.  So, while I must apologize (once again) for my recent radio silence, I hope the wait has been worth it!

I'm thrilled to announce my greatest success so far - due in November 2012!

I will admit that this little squirt has been keeping me occupied (or should I say exhausted and napping) for weeks now.  Most of my morning sickness also seemed to appear in the evenings, so a reclined position on the couch, and access to my "emergency crackers" has been vital.

I'm 12 weeks today and on an upswing in terms of how I feel - less nauseated, a tiny bit more energetic, definitely more motivated.  Now I'm getting ready to embark on the stage that involves figuring out the nursery and starting to knit/sew/crochet stuff.  I have grand ideas delusions of being insanely crafty and have to keep reminding myself that things bought in stores are ok too.  I also won't know the gender for another 4 weeks or so, which means keeping myself to pretty neutral stuff in the meantime.  Then there's also the issue of making room for baby in the room that has been designated for my craft stuff up until now...destash time I think!

So, all in all, I'm going to be busy as hell, but all for a worthy cause and I can't wait to get started.  :)

Daily Dish - Crock Pot Shredded Pork

I finally have my new computer up and running.  It's so fast and quiet compared to my old one.  I'm mostly done transferring the necessary documents off my old hard drive, so now I just need to find a good place to donate it - after all, it's still functional.

I've been saving this dish to share with you. I love finding good crock pot dishes as it's really satisfying to leave home in the morning and come home to a house that smells of a lovely home cooked meal, just ready to go.  We got 3 lbs of pork roast for about $5 at the store and I wanted to make a shredded pork recipe. The spice rub that is on Crumbly Cookie's site really caught my eye so figured we'd give it a whirl.  The pork was delicious and husband had to keep telling me to stop opening up the crock pot lid and stealing bites while it was in the last few minutes of cooking.

We decided to make sandwiches using crusty baguettes and some home made coleslaw.  I don't really have my recipe for the coleslaw, but it involves (as I recall) cabbage, carrot, mayo, apple cider vinegar, sugar, salt & pepper.  Making coleslaw is also a great excuse to shred things in the Cuisinart...you know...just for fun.  :)

Anyway, I highly recommend trying this.  We already had 2 meals from it, and the rest is currently in the freezer for a rainy day.  Delicious and budget friendly.  Can't ask for more.

Daily Ramblings - Meh!

I am a bad blogger.  I've actually had things to share in the last week or two, but haven't managed to take the photos off my camera due to a major lack of space on my computer.

My trusty Dell, purchased sometime circa 2004, is finally at the end of it's time.  I have about 12GB of space left on the hard drive, which just isn't going to get anybody very far!  We do have a secondary hard drive that we were planning on plugging in, but husband says there's some issue with the connectors which means no expansion for me.  So, instead, we decided it's time for a new machine and purchased a new desktop over the weekend - we just haven't set it up yet.  So, while I would love to share with you the amazing crock pot recipe for pulled pork, it may mean waiting a few more days.

In the meantime, I'm excited that Instagram is now on the Android platform (and I'm sure they're excited that they were just bought by Facebook for $1Billion!)  I think that non-iPhone users have seen this floating around for a long time and wanted to be allowed to play.  I haven't had a chance to do much with it yet, but I suspect I'm going to enjoy it.

Anyway, thanks for bearing with me during this gigantic blogging blip.  There's good stuff to come!

Daily Craft - A small project to start

While I'm trying to ease back into regular life after all the March madness (and I'm not talking basketball), I finally got around to making something this weekend.  Granted it was small and really didn't take long, but it felt good to sit back at the sewing machine and actually create.  Ah creation, how I have missed you.

The item in question is a door muffler, requested by my sister-in-law for the youngest nephew's nursery.  Husband took one look at it and demanded to know what the hell it does.  The concept is that this little padded piece of fabric ties onto the doorhandles, preventing the latch from clicking.  I tested it, and it does indeed work - plus it's cute and decorative.  Once I figured out the order of the fabric sandwich (which is always the hard part for me), it was quick to make - plus it's a great scrap buster!  I may consider this something to include with baby shower gifts in the future.
